Rumors Abound that the Mazda CX-3 is Getting a New Engine Soon

The Mazda CX-3 SUV SUV just received a fresh new makeover for the 2018 model year, but we're hearing reports that Mazda is planning even more changes for the next generation of the compact SUV -- which could be arriving as soon as 2020.

The upcoming Mazda CX-3 is expected to move to the company's new SkyActiv II platform, allowing it to increase in size when compared to the current model. This bigger CX-3 will feature an improved interior, with a new dashboard design, reshaped seating, and a more comfortable, spacious cabin.

Additionally, the CX-3 will also be powered by the upcoming SkyActiv-X engines. These engines use compression ignition -- like that of a diesel engine -- in a gasoline engine, delivering a 20 to 30 percent gain in fuel economy and a large boost in torque pound-feet.

The resulting efficiency and performance will be noticeable, as will a subtle change in the SUV's rear suspension set-up that will result in reduced road noise. All in all, we're quite intrigued by the upcoming CX-3, and can't wait to take our turn behind the wheel to put one through its paces.
